A zero-energy house from a log house? Yes!
The first zero-energy log house currently built at Imatra
Did you know that log houses could be made into zero-energy log houses without any additional insulation, and using already existing building service technology? Yes! The first zero-energy log house currently built at Imatra uses the building's own power generation (solar power and geothermal energy), renewable energy (wood) and efficient heat recovery. Furthermore, fireplaces are used to heat air as well as water.
The energy efficiency of a zero-energy log house is among the best: category A (E-rating 64), when calculations consider the 4.8 MWh of the building's own electricity generation (the current maximum level acceptable for calculations in Finland). The estimated electricity production of a zero-energy log house is 17 MWh, which improves its energy efficiency even further!
